Types of Breast Surgeries
Breast Enlargement
Breast enlargement surgery, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enlarge the breasts.
It is typically performed to increase small breasts’ size or restore breast volume after weight loss or childbirth.
Breast enlargement surgery can be performed using implants or autologous tissue (tissue from your own body).
The results of breast enlargement surgery are usually great, and most women are delighted with their new enlarged shape.
It is usual for the breasts to be a little swollen after the breast augmentation operation, and it can take a number of months to see the final results of your boob job.
What to Expect:
- Treatment Time: 2-2.5 hours
- Hospital Stay: 1 night
- Walking: Day 1
- Aftercare: Sports Bra for 6-8 weeks
- Driving: 3 weeks
- Exercising: 8 weeks
- Bathing: Showers after 3 days (no bathing until healed)
- Time off work: 2 weeks for sedentary roles
Breast Implants
Breast implant surgery is a type of surgery that is used to increase the size of a woman’s breasts.
This surgery can also be used to improve the shape and symmetry of the breasts.
During this surgery, breast implants are placed in the breasts. These implants are either made from silicone or saline.
What to Consider:
- Body frame – If you have a larger body frame, you typically need larger implants.
- Height – Your breast implants would need to be longer to be in proportion to your height.
- The width of your current breasts – If you had a large cup size in the past and are hoping to regain your previous cup size (before pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding), a broader width would be more suitable.
- Breast Tissue – If your skin is loose, you could hold a larger implant, either shaped or round.
- Breast enlargement goals – Assess what your ultimate goal is from the surgery.
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of breasts.
It is often performed on women who have large breasts that cause physical discomfort and emotional distress.
During the surgery, excess breast tissue is removed, and the breasts are reshaped and lifted.
Breast reduction surgery can improve a woman’s appearance, self-esteem, and quality of life.
What to Expect:
- Treatment Time: 2-2.5 hours
- Hospital Stay: 1 night
- Walking: Day 1
- Aftercare: Sports Bra for 6-8 weeks
- Driving: 3 weeks
- Exercising: 8 weeks
- Bathing: Showers after 3 days (no bathing until healed)
- Time off work: 2 weeks for sedentary roles
Breast Uplift
Breast uplift surgery, also known as Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to improve the shape and position of the breasts.
This surgery can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple).
Mastopexy is most often performed on women who have drooping or sagging breasts due to ageing, pregnancy, or weight loss.
