What is a Mid Facelift?

A Mid Facelift is an operation to lift the cheek through an incision in the lower eyelid.

It helps to rejuvenate the central third of the face i.e under the eyes and improves the lines that run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. It lifts the slumed cheek back up to where it used to be in youth and totally refreshes the face

The Results

You should have a natural, refreshed look with a harmonious contour from your lower eye towards your cheeck

Case Study

Mid Facelift – Naomi*

Introduction

Naomi came to me asking if anything could be done about her “drawn and tired” appearance. She was not sure what was giving her this look but noticed that the area around her eyes looked tired and she was getting fed up with people asking if she was weary when she was actually feeling ok but her looks did not match how she felt.

Patient Background

She is a mother and works part tie in her husband’s business. She has a large circle of friends and was receiving well meaning remarks but they were beginning to upset her. She was otherwise quite well and had not had any other cosmetic procedures in the past. She was a non-smoker and did not wear any contact lenses. Examination showed that she had some lower eye bags but also a clear line beneath the eye were the fat had descended giving a hollow and tired expression. I explained that the combination of an eye lift and lifting this fat back up, known as a Mid Facelift, was the best operation to rejuvenate her face and that was quite clear when looking at old photos that she brought in for me to look at.

Questions at Consultation

Naomi wanted to know how long the operation would take and when she would be presentable again for work and socializing. I explained the procedure takes up to 3 hrs and that all patients bruise differently but in general people are able to get back to work in 10 days with a little make up used to cover the areas that are still settling

1st Consultation

I examined Naomi carefully to ensure that her eyes were healthy and that there were no problems with her lids. Things that are important to check for include differences in the position of the lids and dry eyes. A test to look at how lax the lower eyelid is done also as this is something that can be secured at the time of surgery to ensure that post operatively there is no shift in position.

I showed her the different patients I had done with both pre and post op pics and explained how the operation is done and the major risks that come with the surgery as well as the normal post op course of recovery for most of my patients

2nd Consultation

At the second consultation we went through some questions Naomi had after reading the informed consent form and she asked about when she would be reviewed post op. I explained that I see my patients at a week post op to review the wounds and then after 2 weeks. We took her pre op photographs and she read and signed the consent documents

The Day of Surgery

On the day of her cosmetic surgery I went to see Naomi with my Anaesthetist and we explained what was going to happen. She was happy with the plan and she was first on the list that day so she was not waiting and worrying. The procedure went as planned and she was returned to the ward with cooling packs over her eyes which help to reduce any swelling and discomfort. I saw her the next day when she was less bruised than I expected and discharged her home

Post Op Care

It’s important to take it easy during the first seven days of recovery and have someone on hand to look after you for the first 24 hours after your surgery.  Your swelling/bruising should peak at three or four days post op but usually patients feel well enough to move around the house after one or two days. You will be booked in to see Mr Lambe for a post operative review after one week and then again a week after that to ensure her healing is as expected.

Patient Feedback

I wish I could find words to express how grateful I am to you.  I am delighted with the results so far and all my expectations have been exceeded beyond anything I could have hoped for.  I will be eternally indebted to you.
