Cosmetic surgery is more popular than ever but in these times of increased prices and ongoing economic uncertainty, it’s critical to understand how it is beneficial to cut costs in some areas and vital that you do not cut costs and quality in other areas of your life.
The allure of cheap cosmetic surgery and non-surgical aesthetic procedures is stronger than ever, with advertising, social media, magazines and newspapers all contributing to the pressure to look ‘perfect’.
Alas for Alice Webb, 33, a Mother of 5 children and in the Aesthetics Industry herself, the draw became too strong and she booked a non-surgical BBL procedure.
Consequently this week saw the first death of a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) patient who had gone for the cut price procedure in a hotel. She had the procedure, later felt unwell and was admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where she died.
There is an ongoing inquest into the exact reason for her death.

The Importance of Cosmetic Surgery Safety
Please be aware that when it comes to enhancing your appearance and the risk to your health and wellbeing, your safety is imperative.
We do not know for sure the exact reasons why Alice chose to have this procedure, it could have been price, promises, downtime or any combination of these reasons. We will never know.
Please, please, please be aware that no matter what the promises are that all procedures carry a risk and you should be fully informed of the skills and experience of the practitioner who is going to perform the procedure on you.
You should always research the hospital, the practitioner and the procedure thoroughly and also talk to your friends and family.
The Risks of Cosmetic Surgery
In the UK, cosmetic surgeons must adhere to the strict guidelines set by multiple authoritative bodies. This helps ensure that only qualified professionals perform procedures. These regulations include thorough training, ongoing education, and rigorous licensing processes.
BAAPS
The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) plays a crucial role in upholding high standards in cosmetic surgery. Their guidelines and protocols are designed to minimise risks and enhance patient outcomes, making the UK a safer choice for such procedures.
Please check that your surgeon is listed on their membership here.
BAPRAS
The British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons is based in London, UK and began in 1946, post World War 2, when surgeons were reconstructing form and function of soldiers who had been maimed or injured in battle.
Following on from this, we now understand plastic surgery to encompass cosmetic surgery where people commonly have procedures to improve their appearance from birth, development or trauma. BAPRAS is a democratic, membership based organisation for plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons working in the UK.
Checks are stringent and designed to ensure your safety and confidence in the Plastic Surgeon who you wish to operate on you.

The General Medical Council
The medical register is a list of doctors in the United Kingdom, showing their registration status, training and other useful information.
They work with doctors, patients, and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care.
They say “We set the standards doctors and those who train them need to meet, and help them achieve them”.
Needless to say, Mr Lambe is fully registered with this professional body.

Discontinuation of Risky Procedures
Reflect Clinic made the decision to discontinue offering Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery due to its high-risk nature. We believe in prioritising your safety over following trends, and we actively spread awareness about the risks associated with certain procedures with organisations such as Save Face or Safety in Beauty.
Multi-Award Winning for Your Safety
Mr Lambe and the team have won many awards for their Transformational Cosmetic Surgery results and are regular finalists for awards such as The Best Cosmetic Surgery Team, including the highly regarded Safety in Beauty organisation led by Antonia Mariconda who is dedicated to ensuring continuing and progressive guidelines towards aesthetic patient safety in the beauty and medical professions.
The Real Cost of Cut Price Procedures
Press warnings and case studies play a vital role in educating the public about the dangers of having aesthetic or cosmetic surgery procedures such as the case of Alice Webb in the UK and so many other women who have gone abroad for their BBL and cheap cosmetic surgery procedures.
Although cheap cosmetic surgery or cheap non-surgical procedures such as BBLs may seem like cost-effective alternatives, the reality is that it can end up being far more expensive to you in the long run.
We often perform corrective procedures, after cut price procedures here and abroad, and the complications and corrective procedures can quickly add up, making the initial savings a false economy.
There is also the personal cost to you of your health and the cost to your family should you be ill long-term or even die. I think you will agree that the risk to your life is not worth the saving of a couple of thousand pounds.
Having a cosmetic surgery procedure is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make but what is the real price of your health to you?
