Alex & His Sisters Event in Altrincham
We’ve started the year as we mean to go on, meeting lots of entrepreneurial women who are the foundations of Cheshire society.
To this end, I signed up to an event organised by Alex McCann who is a social media expert and trainer based in Altrincham and Founder of Altrincham HQ (Instagram @AltrinchamHQ).You can book onto these yourself via this link. The next one is in March 25.
As usual it was a packed event, where lots of women from start up businesses, to SMEs, hoping to spread the word on their successful business, mix together in a win-win collaborative approach, which is similar to the ethos we have at Reflect Clinic. It’s good long term business to keep your patients happy first and foremost, but also having a happy and supported team really helps with running a business. We also got the chance to catch up with Kirsty James, a professional networker who “connects people with purpose”. She is also a speaker at TedX and a community champion (Instagram @kirstyjamesnetworking) along with Helen Auden, Events Manager at the Life Centre on Washway Road in Sale, Cheshire who offer meeting rooms and space for 2 to 250 people).
The Con Club
The Con Club is known in Cheshire for it’s buzz as a hub of activity, for whether you’d like a capuccino or a cocktail, they fit the bill.We highly recommend them for their food and ambience and you can see yourself by following them on Instagram @conclubrestaurant. It’s Mr Lambe’s favourite for their food and mine for their cocktails 😉 so that’s where we went for our Christmas Do! It was great to visit them again in the New Year and get some inspiration from the many women there who own their own business and sometimes “wear two hats”, as they work for someone else and all the time building up their own unique business, which is often driven to improve society. The format is usually that Alex asks his guests to introduce themselves, in a sentence or two, which is no easy task with a packed room. Once each attendee has introduced themselves and their business, then it’s beneficial to contact that person at the end of the session for either a quick chat or to organise a one-to-one meeting to see how you can collaborate, support or signpost eachother for the benefit of your businesses.
Make it Fun!
To make it fun, Alex asks people to take photos of other attendees in their group and tag each other. He also asks a relevant question, such as today’s which was to ask “What are we NOT going to do in 2025” which really sparks debate amongst the attendees and breaks the ice for those who have not been before. In the picture to your right is Alex McCann, (name and business to follow), Bijal Sports & Fitness Instructor (Instagram @yogawithBijal_), Joanna Lambe (Instagram @ReflectClinic and @IamJoannaLambe), Elmo Puppet, care of Sara Kay who offers laughter workshops which act as Mood Boosters for Stress Relief to companies and their employees to help with stress management and mental wellness, (Instagram @seriouslaughuk)
You can contact any of the ladies above via their instagram tags but I can’t guarantee that Elmo will get back to you! ha ha
Speaker
The format also includes a guest speaker and this week it was Sarah Birdsey from Nicholls Solicitors in Timperley, Cheshire, who told her story of why she became a solicitor.
She experienced divorce at a young age, as her parents divorced when she was 8 years old and she uses this personal experience today when she deals with people when they come to her for advice and legal support at her firm of Family Law Solicitors.
They have a good team and supportive culture which helps share legal and personal knowledge of the processes they deal with which could be Wills, Probate, Divorce or moving house.
Sarah also has personal experience from her own divorce so she totally understands the physical, mental and emotional sides of the process when she is representing her clients. She did manage to make us laugh too in her humble and honest style.
Unfortunately, January is a time where there is a big peak in people filing for divorce after so much time spent with family where emotions often run high and also with the increase in financial pressures, especially now, in times of high economic interest rates and high prices of gifts, food and fuel provision, which affect humans at their core.
It is no surprise then, that these pressures often combine and sometimes result in divorce. The latest figures show that 42% marriages now end in divorce. This sounded quite high to me, but apparently this is the lowest figure since the 1970s according to Google!
Women Supporting Women
It was great to be inspired by the speaker, chat with other likeminded women on their business journeys and find out the latest news of the Cheshire area and find out any emerging trends, as we like to keep our eyes on what may be happening in the future.
Rachel (on the left) is the next speaker at Alex’s mixed event, (details via Eventbrite), along with myself, Toni Axon Coaching (Instagram @ToniAxonCoaching who is a life coach for Mums, along with speaker of the day Sarah Birdsey of Nicholls Solicitors (Instagram @nichollssols).
