Breast enlargement surgery has become increasingly more popular over the years, especially in cities like Manchester and others throughout the UK. At Reflect Clinic in Manchester, we have tons of clients who we have helped to become more body positive and confident.
Breast enlargement surgery can help to give you the big confidence boost you are looking for, and now is as good a time as any to invest in yourself.
What is a breast enlargement?
Breast enlargement (sometimes known as breast augmentation or Mammaplasty, and more commonly known as a ‘boob job’) is a form of cosmetic surgery to enhance, reshape, or increase the size of your breasts. Breast enlargement is the ideal procedure for those who are looking to correct any asymmetry you may in the breasts, if you’re looking to go up a cup size (or a few), or if you’d just like a bit more volume.
A breast enlargement can often be carried out with a breast uplift, which is a procedure to give your breasts a more perky appearance. This procedure can often be popular with women after childbirth, and breastfeeding; after which you may find that the breasts can droop.
Whilst having some asymmetry in your breasts, or finding that your breasts have drooped after childbirth, is completely natural, some women are generally unhappy with the appearance of their breasts, and find that a breast enlargement (sometimes paired with an uplift) can help to boost their confidence; some of our clients have even said that the surgery has been life-changing.
Thinking of Having Breast Enlargement Surgery in Manchester?
If you are considering having breast enlargement surgery, the first thing you would need to do is book an appointment at our Manchester clinic, where you will have an initial meeting with a plastic surgeon. This is where you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, your background, and why you would like breast enlargement surgery. You will also be able to ask any questions and queries you may have about the procedure. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, we understand this may be a new experience and you may have your reservations; we are here to help guide and support you throughout the process, so ask away!
After your initial meeting, you will then come in for a first consultation at our Manchester clinic. Here, your plastic surgeon, will talk you through the plan and procedure for the breast enlargement. Again, you will have the opportunity to ask questions to make sure this is the right procedure, and the right time, for you.
You will then have a second consultation, before the surgery is arranged. During this consultation you will have the opportunity to confirm the type of implants you would like. Your plastic surgeon will go through some pre-op procedures such as, taking pre-op photographs, to ensure everything will run smoothly on the day.
What’s involved in breast enlargement surgery?
On the day of your breast enlargement surgery, you will come down to our clinic in Manchester, where you will meet with your plastic surgeon. This is an opportunity to ask any final questions you may have about the surgery.
The breast enlargement surgery can take between 60-90 minutes, and will be carried out under general anaesthetic.
The operation itself involves the surgeon making an incision underneath or at the side of the breast. The breast implants will then be placed either between the breast tissue and chest muscle, or behind your chest muscle. Although, sometimes this will be done using a dual plane technique, which is where the implant will be placed partly behind the breast and partly behind the muscle. This technique is generally more suitable for women with little excess fat in their chest area. However, the technique used will be discussed in your consultations.
Once the implant(s) have been placed, your incisions will be stitched up and covered with a dressing.
Will I have to stay in overnight?
If you live locally to the Manchester clinic, you should be able to go home the same day as your surgery, unless your surgery is scheduled late in the day, then you may have to stay overnight.
If you do not live close to Manchester, and are travelling a distance to the clinic, you will need to stay overnight after your surgery. If you are travelling to the clinic, from a further distance, you can speak to our Clinic Manager who can help to arrange transport and accommodation nearby for you, to make your process a lot more comfortable and stress-free.
How long does a breast enlargement take to heal?
It can take several weeks to recover from a breast enlargement surgery. The first 3 days, following the surgery, can be the most uncomfortable for most. You shouldn’t drive for a week after your surgery and you may need to take around a week off work, however, some people have been able to return to an office-based jobs after the initial 3 days. If you are unsure of whether it’s suitable for you to return to work, please don’t hesitate to ask your plastic surgeon.
You should be cautious with such as exercise for up to 4 weeks after your surgery, however, you should be able to do some gentle exercise after around 10 days.
Your stitches will typically be removed after a week or two, and you should be able to return to your normal day-to-day activities after 6 weeks.
Your plastic surgeon will most likely advise you to wear a sports bra throughout this time, and possibly for the first 3 months, as this can be more comfortable and provide better support. After this time, your breasts will start to look and feel more natural.
How long will breast implants last?
Some women will need to have their breast enlargement surgery again after around 10 years. This could be because the breasts have changed shape around the implants, or if they have had any issues with the implants. With Reflect Clinic Manchester, your implants are insured for up to 10 years, for legal reasons. However, if you have no problems and you are still happy with your breast enlargement implants, there is no reason why you would need to have the surgery again after the 10 years.
Please note that breast implants aren’t guaranteed to last, and they will most likely need to be replaced at some point.
