We hear you loud and clear! Deciding to go ahead with any cosmetic surgery is a big commitment. So we want to give you the information you need, to know that this procedure is right for you!
Pinnaplasty or otoplasty are medical terms for an ear correction operation that recreates the fold of the ear so that the ears are less prominent.
In approximately 30 minutes, this very simple operation will be completed under local anaesthetic whilst you are awake. Before the operation, a numbing cream is applied or an injection that numbs the area. Being awake during this operation is nothing to be worried about. Under local anaesthetic, you won’t be caused to lose consciousness, and it doesn’t require any special preparation before they’re used. You can recover from being under local anaesthetic more quickly than if you undergo a procedure where you’re put under general anaesthesia.
The procedure usually involves making a small cut behind the ear, exposing the ears cartilage. If necessary, we will remove small pieces of cartilage, put stitches at the back of the ear to reshape or position it closer to the head.
The hospital stay is a quick day-case procedure, so you will be in and out on the same day. After the procedure, you’ll be fit to walk, drive and bathe the same day!
It won’t require you to take multiple days off work, but we’d recommend you rest after the procedure and avoid contact sports or pressure to the area. You may have some swelling and bruising for a while after the operation. Infection or exposure to the clip is very rare, so that’s nothing to worry about.
The results of your pinnaplasty are visible immediately, so no need to wait months for results!
You will be reviewed at ten days, six weeks and six months to ensure you are happy with your cosmetic surgery procedure. We will also be checking all is going well with the healing process.
